The School: St. Marys Priory RC Primary School

St Mary’s Priory in Haringey, are in their second year of working with the Enabling Enterprise programme. After the success of their Greetings Card Challenge Day last term, the whole school wanted to stretch their students’ teamwork even further, this time with a particular focus on Problem Solving and Listening Carefully. Let’s see how they got on.

The Challenge: Crime Scene Challenge

The students at St Mary’s Priory began the day with a special ‘police briefing’ in assembly from Detectives Chantelle and Delphine, who explained that a criminal, known as ‘The Sugar Snatcher’ had struck again! Students took on the role of new police recruits, working with members of the Police’s Forensic Unit to collect and analyse evidence from the ‘crime scene’. The teams of aspiring detectives had to work carefully together so as to not miss any important clues.

The Results:

Throughout the day the teams were rewarded with points for Working in a Team as well as Sharing their Ideas in order to select the most compelling evidence which would prove their suspect guilty.
Teams aimed really high and managed to stay positive as they analysed and discussed all the different kinds of evidence they gathered. The investigation culminated in a round of impressively professional presentations to the Case Officer, where the new police recruits put forward the suspect they thought was guilty based on the evidence they had found. Just as they were reflecting on the day, the police recruits were shocked by a surprise confession!

What they said:

  • “This class usually struggles with working together, but today, they have just gelled. This is the kind of learning which suits them best.” – Teacher, St Mary’s Priory RC
  • “Today, we worked really well as a team because we were helping each other and we were checking everyone had a job and knew what they had to do.” – Year 3 Student, St Mary’s Priory

Well done to everyone who was involved and helped our Case Officer so skilfully!
