The School: Longlands Primary

This year, students from Longlands Primary in Bexley, south-east London have been focusing on developing resilience as part of their work on building growth mindset. They have been using Enabling Enterprise projects as a way of focusing on this skill in more depth. So far this year, they have completed an Enterprise Week during which they developed their own chocolate brands, designed and constructed buildings or developed an eco-campaign for their school.

Teachers were keen to see students apply skills such as Working in a Team and Aiming High to a new, politics-themed challenge.

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

The day began in Longlands Primary’s very own House of Commons, where the budding politicians met to learn about key British values such as democracy. They demonstrated an excellent knowledge of British politics, including who is currently in power and who make up the opposition.

New political parties emerged throughout the school, with students taking part in voting and debates, writing manifestos and designing party loot including rosettes. At the end of the day, each class took part in a hustings and voted for their preferred political party.

The Results:

Throughout the day, students showed great resilience when faced with challenging problems. They Listened Carefully to each other and during the assembly, applying what they’d heard during each phase of the day to further themselves. They presented their ideas effectively and developed teamwork strategies to succeed.

What they said:

  • “I have seen children who don’t normally speak out, really thrive today.” – Teacher, Longlands Primary School
  • “If I was in government and in charge of schools, I would make sure every school gets to do Enabling Enterprise!” – Student, Longlands Primary School

Well done to everyone who was involved.
