The School: Foresters Primary

For the past three years, students in Year 5 at Foresters Primary in Sutton have had the opportunity to develop skills during in-depth Lesson Time projects. So far, this year’s cohort have created their own chocolate brands by applying their Maths skills.

For their exciting Crime Scene Challenge Day, Year 5 were joined by the rest of Key Stage 2 and Larch class to explore the Enterprise Skills over the course of a whole day.

The Challenge: Crime Scene Challenge

At the start of the day, students filed into the hall for a shocking announcement: all the chocolate had been stolen from the school kitchen! After the four fairytale suspects had been revealed, the new police recruits headed back to class to begin collecting and analysing evidence. But would they successfully guess who committed the crime?…

The Results:

At the end of a busy day, during which students independently worked in teams to solve different police problems, each police team presented their case files to the rest of their class, trying to convince them that their arguments were backed up by the evidence they had gathered.

Students demonstrated great resilience when each piece of new information presented itself, and made lots of tough decisions by listening carefully to each team member and agreeing on a final verdict.

What they said:

  • “They’ve done so well today, really getting into the challenge and working well together.” – Teacher, Foresters Primary
  • “We’ve shown good problem solving by getting extra information to help us solve the crime.” – Student, Foresters Primary

Well done to everyone who was involved.
