The School: Dairy Meadow Primary School

Dairy Meadow is based in Southall, and is in its first year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Already acquainted with the all-important Enterprise Skills from their Greetings Card Challenge Day last term, the Year 6 students were quickly able to get into their task in this new setting.

The Business: London Business School, London

London Business School offers graduates a chance to do a range of top class MBA programmes. Its students come from all over the world, and have a chance to take part in a wide range of hands-on business tasks as well as learning from lecturers who are global experts in their field.

The Challenge: Imaginative Inventors

The students were tasked with understanding the background and experiences of the volunteers they were working with, as well as the everyday demands of their degree at LBS. They had to use their imaginations to brainstorm lots of ideas for a new gadget which could support the volunteers in their studies, and choose to design and advertise the one which they thought would sell the best.

The Results:

The students all learnt to take the initial problems raised by the volunteers and solve those in particularly creative ways with their new gadget. The volunteers were particularly impressed by an idea for a watch which worked as a Personal Assistant, with the slogan “Working Over Time”. All the teams finished the day showing how professionally they could present their work, pitching their ideas passionately to persuade the judges to vote for them.

What they said:

  • “It was really great to see the kids all so involved. The class gave it a 5 out of 5.” – Teacher, Dairy Meadow
  • “I was really impressed by all the ideas they had. They worked really hard to get it done.” – Volunteer, LBS
  • “It was a great experience to do the project outside of school, working with real business volunteers.” – Student, Dairy Meadow

Thanks to London Business School for such a great trip day, and to Year 6 from Dairy Meadow for coming along.
