The School: Cranford Primary

Cranford Primary is a long standing partner school, and these Year 4 children have been taking part in Enabling Enterprise for a couple of years. These children had already demonstrated their enthusiasm and how well they could work together through their projects in school, and now had the chance to show this off in a professional environment.

The Business: General Electric, London

GE build appliances, lighting, power systems and other products that help millions of homes, offices, factories, airlines and retail facilities around the world work better. They are well known for their partnership with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games where their products were used in every sporting venue in London and across the UK to help build a sustainable Olympic Games.

The Challenge: Invest for Success

After a tour of the offices, including the all-important SLT floor of the impressive Ark building, these Year 4s were given the challenge to understand the world of risk and return, using their problem solving skills to make good investment decisions for their clients. With support from the employee volunteers from GE, they explored what made a company a risky investment and how to make sure they were making strong decisions for their clients Mr & Mrs Green.

The Results:

Each of the teams worked together and used key listening skills to learn about the world of investment. Having learnt a range of new vocabulary from “return” to “investment” and “risk” in the context of the business world, all the teams went on to make good decisions for their clients. The judges from GE were suitably impressed with how much had been achieved in just one short day!

What they said:

  • ”l am impressed with how much the children know about investment! ” – Teacher, Cranford Primary
  • “This was my first experience of anything like this and it was fantastic” – Volunteer, GE
  • “I have learnt what investment management is today” – Student, Cranford Primary

Thanks to General Electric for such a great trip day, and to Year 4 from Cranford Primary for coming along.
