On the 6th of May, students from Cardinal Pole visited Oliver Wyman to experience firsthand the challenges a management consultant faces day to day. After a short introduction on the company, the nine students were given a supermarket challenge for the fictional store called Uncle Oliver’s.

The students dived into the tasks, which included coming up with a slogan and accompanying poster, locating a site for their supermarket and designing the layout of their store. All the exercises were modelled on typical projects, and in fact the spacial challenge was something Oliver Wyman’s had actually worked on!

The day ended with each team presenting their three tasks, and the CEO of Uncle Oliver’s judging the proposals put forward. Congratulations to the winning team who impressed the judges enormously with their suave presenting skills and intelligent responses to difficult questions. It was clear to see just how business minded all the teams were as they explained their money making strategies to the CEO. Lastly, many thanks to all the volunteers at Oliver Wyman who led the three teams and imparted some wise advice.
