Languages at Freshfields

Friday saw two of the schools on our MFL programme come together at international law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP. The students from St Paul’s Academy and Feltham Community College have been creating their very own international enterprise over the year, drawing on both their language skills and developing business acumen to raise their peers’ awareness of other cultures. In the meantime they’ve been turning over a tidy profit too!

Freshfields was therefore the perfect venue for a day of business challenges and exploration into what working in an international business is really like. The students fared well: They had to trade, negotiate, plan, budget, build and then finally present their project under timed conditions, giving them a taste of the pressure that the lawyers they worked alongside know all too well!

What made the day so great though, was the opportunity to meet a variety of volunteers from across Freshfields. The students had the opportunity to ask questions and find out about how the lawyers got to be where they are today. They came away realising that with plenty of hard work and determination, they could end up being just as successful. Thanks to all the volunteers from Freshfields for making it such an enjoyable and inspiring day!
