The School: John Perryn Primary

Thirty Year 6 students from John Perryn Primary in Southall, West London, arrived at OMD’s offices in Kings Cross, ready to immerse themselves in the world of advertising. Back at school teachers were busy finalising plans for their Autumn Enterprise Week, which would be the perfect follow up from today’s trip.

The Business: OMD, London

OMD is part of a global media agency with clients including Virgin Media, Disney, Channel 4 and Boots. Having won numerous awards, OMD is credited as being one of the most forward thinking, creative, effective and innovative communications agencies in the UK. Students got a chance to meet a range of volunteers from across the organisation and work with them to improve their teamwork and communication skills, and gain a better understanding of the professional media world.

The Challenge: Marketing Managers

Students were given the exciting challenge of creating a campaign to promote Disney’s brand new television series Evermoor, to its target audience of 7-11 year olds. The students had lots of insight into the likes and dislikes of this audience, as well as great ideas for how to place their new advert!

The Results:

Students rose to the challenge and were creative in both the placement and design of their advertising campaigns. Their ideas ranged from rebranding a bus, placing billboard posters and creating a televised trailer. At the end of the day, students showed off their sharing ideas skills by presenting their campaigns to a panel of judges from OMD. The judges were particularly impressed with how imaginative their ideas were.

What they said:

  • “This wasn’t an easy challenge but they’ve really done us proud!” – Teacher, John Perryn Primary School
  • “The children were really enthusiastic. It was great to spend time with them – kids know a lot more than you think!” – Volunteer, OMD
  • “It is really important for them to understand the broader jobs that exist. Their confidence impressed me and their creativity really came through!” – Volunteer, OMD
  • “I’ve enjoyed working with my group because I got to develop my ideas by sharing them and getting feedback from my friends,” – Student, John Perryn Primary School

Thanks to OMD for such a great trip day, and to John Perryn Primary School for coming along.
