The School: Priestmead Primary School & Nursery

Located in Harrow, Priestmead Primary School & Nursery are new to working with Enabling Enterprise. They have already planned an exciting 3-year enterprise programme to prepare their students with the skills that lead to success. Today the whole school, from Nursery to Year 6 kick-started the programme with their first ever Challenge Day. This stretching challenge was sure to put the students’ Imagination and Teamwork skills to the test.

The Challenge: Greetings Card Challenge Day

It was in a very special assembly that the students found out about their challenge for the day: To set up their own card manufacturing companies, to design, make and sell their cards in competition with other teams in their class. Adults in the hall could clearly see, hear and feel the enthusiasm and imagination from the students, which set the bar high. As the students went back to classrooms, they felt empowered with the skills they would need as a team in order to Problem-Solve, Stay Positive and Aim High if they were to make a profit as designers and card manufacturers.

The Results:

During the production line, teams were able to test out different strategies to maximise their potential profits. Working with limited resources and within very tight deadlines, all students collaborated to the best they could to produce the most amazing themed cards. Next, all teams had to prepare and deliver a persuasive pitch that would convince their peers to vote for them. It is fair to say that the majority of them had become experts at Sharing Ideas by that point.

The day culminated in a ‘Dragons’ Den style’ showdown, followed by the all-important votes from their peers. All teams showed such high standards in some of the Challenge Skills that teachers were spoilt for choice when they had to decide who the winners would be.

What they said:

  • “Today we were really good at Teamwork because we cooperated, we asked each other how good our idea was, and we encouraged each other.” –Student, Priestmead Primary
  • “Today I’ve seen a lot of Listening Carefully as well as Sharing Ideas, which has helped them a lot as they were making decisions. Also, there was some really good Leading from some pupils who confidently helped their team when they were stuck. This is a huge thing for my class, I’m really proud!” – Teacher, Priestmead Primary

Well done to everyone who was involved.
