The Schools: Kenmont School and Stamford Hill Primary School

Year 5 students from long standing Enabling Enterprise partner school Stamford Hill last put their enterprise skills to the test during a challenge to design a base for a distant moon. They will be further honing the skills later this year as they set up a radio station in class. Students from Kenmont Primary is also an Enabling Enterprise partner school, their last challenge was to explore the world of politics and set up political party for their school.

The Business: GE Capital, London

GE Capital provides financial services and knowledge and expertise to businesses to help them grow and develop. It is great for students to see inside a business such as GE Capital where there is such a wide range of positions and skills required so that students realise the huge variety of jobs available for them to aspire to one day.

The Challenge: Invest for Success

Working in teams from across both schools, students were set the challenge of becoming investment bankers for the day, looking to make the most money for their clients. To be successful, they had to listen carefully and learn about new ideas such as investing in companies and managing risk. They used their new knowledge to work as a team to invest their clients’ money wisely, taking advice from the GE Capital volunteers.

The Results:

The teams thought very carefully about what they’d learnt about managing risk, with every team choosing to invest in at least two companies. This meant they all got fantastic returns on their client’s investment, something each team shared in their presentations at the end of the day. The judges were particularly impressed by how clear and confident the presentations were and how well the teams worked together to create them.

What they said:

  • “It’s been a really good day, they’ve had a great time.” – Teacher, Stamford Hill Primary School
  • “I’ve been really impressed with how much they’ve learnt through the day” – Volunteer, GE Capital
  • “I liked doing the presentation the best because you got to work with your team to make it really good ” – Student, Kenmont Pirmary School

Thanks to GE Capital for such a great trip day, and to Kenmont Primary School and Stamford Hill Primary School for coming along.
