The School: Montpelier Primary School

Montpelier Primary School is located in Ealing and the students on the trip were from Year 4. Last year, all students at Montpelier took part in one enterprise project and a whole-school Challenge Day to develop their enterprise skills. The Challenge Day these students took part in was A Day in Politics where they worked in teams to set up their own brand new political parties.

The Business: Oliver Wyman, London

Oliver Wyman is an international management consultancy, helping businesses to solve their biggest challenges. Most recently, this has included the re-branding of Starbucks and McDonalds. It was a fantastic chance for students to see how problem-solving and sharing ideas are such important skills not just in school but also for management consultants.

The Challenge: United Jetways

The day saw students find out more about a management consultancy and the clients that Oliver Wyman work with. In their teams Year 4 Montpelier students were then set the challenge of turning around the failing airline United Jetways. They had to use their imagination and work as a team in order to create a catchy slogan and a marketing poster to attract their target customer to come fly with this airline.

The Results:

The CEO of United Jetways joined the students in the afternoon in order to hear their presentations and to decide which team she thought had the best ideas to turn around United Jetways. The CEO was particularly impressed by how some teams had shared out the jobs for completing the poster so that everyone in the team had a role and had input into the final outcome.

What they said:

  • “The students have felt really grown-up coming here today and working with the Oliver Wyman adults. It is great for their aspirations and to show them the jobs they can be aiming for in the future!” – Teacher, Montpelier Primary School
  • “I’ve seen my team use all the challenge skills so far today but in particular they have been Aiming High and Working in a Team to jointly decide on a fantastic slogan.” – Volunteer, Oliver Wyman
  • “Everyone is having fun. If we hadn’t come here we wouldn’t have known about our future and what we wanted to be.” – Student, Montpelier Primary School

Thanks to Oliver Wyman for such a great trip day, and to Montpelier Primary School for coming along.
