The School: Davies Lane Primary School

Based in Leytonstone, East London, Davis Lane is a 3-form entry school who are new to working with Enabling Enterprise. Today the whole school decided to embark on this stretching challenge to put their students’ enterprise skills to the test. Let’s see how they got on.

The Challenge: Operation Moon Base

The day started with an assembly which set the students on a mission to create a brand new society on a moon that has just been discovered. After taking on the roles of young managers, all students had to use both their Teamwork and Problem Solving skills to select an ideal crew before coming up with a brand new species of animal, which could help them thrive on their new Moon Base.

The Results:

Students also took on the role of architects to design a whole city from scratch, working within tight deadlines. Throughout the day, creativity and originality were certainly noticed and rewarded both by teachers and EE staff, who were impressed with the fantastic ideas they came up with.

Operation Moon Base culminated in a thriving Intergalactic Trade Fair, where students shared ideas in the spirit of healthy competition to persuade their peers to vote for their new civilisation. By the end of the day, students were using their enterprise skills so expertly that you could hardly tell this was their first experience of such a challenge.

What they said:

  • “I was really pleased to see how some students’ teamwork skills developed as the challenge went on. There was lots and lots of discussion between them. Also, I like the way the activities allow to them to both work individually and then share as a group.” – Teacher, Davies Lane Primary School
  • “The bit we liked the most was building our cities because we used our imagination a lot, and we used everybody’s ideas in the team.” – Year 5 Students, Davies Lane Primary School

Well done to everyone who was involved.
