The School: Lavender Primary School

Located in the Borough of Enfield, Lavender Primary School are in their first year of working with Enabling Enterprise. Their students have already shown amazing enterprise skills this year, either through business trips they took part in or through their lesson time projects.
The General Election took place earlier this year in May, and it was the perfect excuse for Lavender’s young entrepreneurs to put their skills to the test, in terms of teamwork, imagination and leadership. Let’s see how today’s challenge led them to shine out.

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

Going from the assembly hall ‘House of Commons’ to the classroom, students put their newly acquired knowledge to the test, becoming MPs for the day. After tackling a quiz and debate, new political parties were formed, complete with logos and rosettes, culminating in devising party manifestos. This challenge was a great chance for the students to get an insight into what politicians do. It also revealed some talented leaders as well as creative minds who came up with the most effective party policies and materials.

The Results:

Students worked fantastically, applying their problem solving skills to the task as all teams proved to be extremely efficient given their tight deadlines. Some really interesting debates were explored, including, for example, how to regulate income tax better. Students used their imagination to come up with a logo and slogan for their political party and to create their huge variety of stash. Finally, Lavender students shared their ideas in the political hustings before voting in the all-important elections that concluded the day with the highest spirit of achievement and pride.

What they said:

  • “What a brilliant day! Fun-packed, very productive and engaging. I was also surprised at the quality of language they were using in their policies.” – Teacher, Lavender Primary School
  • “At the beginning of the day, things didn’t work out in our team, but at the end of the day we were proud that we learnt how to stay positive and make everyone feel good about working as a team.” – Student, Lavender Primary School

Well done to everyone who was involved.
