The School: Malmesbury Primary School

Malmesbury Primary School in Merton are currently working with Enabling Enterprise for the Summer term. Thirty lucky students from Key Stage 2 have already begun to develop their enterprise skills by visiting our business partners, including IBM and RSA. In a couple of weeks all the students in Year 1 to Year 6 at Malmesbury will be taking part in their lesson time projects in the classroom, but the challenge for today was set to the students of Key Stage 2. Would they Aim High, Listen Carefully and Work in a Team?

The Challenge: Business in a Day

In preparation for their end of term enterprise celebration, the students of KS2 were set the challenge of setting up a brand new souvenir business, in just one day. The management team were on the hunt for the best Malmesbury Primary souvenir ideas to take forward to be sent to production in time to be sold at the end of term fair. In teams, students had to design a new range of school souvenirs, manage a budget to buy resources, make the prototypes and sell them back to the shop to make a profit and finally prepare an advert to persuade the public to buy their product. These budding entrepreneurs stood up to the challenge and did their school incredibly proud.

The Results:

All across the Key Stage teams were fully engaged in the challenge, they showed excellent understanding of good team work and applied this quickly. The creativity on show was particularly impressive; book bags, oyster card holders, ipad cases, memory boxes and photos frames were being redesigned for pupils of Malmesbury Primary to buy as a memento of their time at school. It was fantastic to see the pride in their school and the prospect of keeping their school memories alive was heart-warming. Capturing this target market, the teams created some profitable products which all had potential to win the opportunity to have their ideas become a reality.

What they said:

  • “I was so impressed with the team work and creativity from every single child in my class” – Teacher, Malmesbury Primary
  • “I’ve learnt that you need to think carefully before you spend your money and that good quality costs money” – Y3 Student, Malmesbury Primary

Well done to everyone who was involved. The Enabling Enterprise team were incredibly impressed with how organised and enthusiastic staff were on the day. It had a huge impact on the success of the project.
