The School: Wendell Park Primary School

Year 4, 5 and 6 children at Wendell Park Primary, in the Hammersmith and Fulham area, have already been busy developing their enterprise skills through projects such as Food Glorious Food, Number Crunching and Active Minds. This Challenge Day also involved KS1 and lower KS2 students who were all eager to show off their enterprise skills. Wendell Park now looks forward to their summer term trips as well as becoming an Enabling Enterprise partner school in the Autumn term.

The Challenge: A Day in Politics

The day began with an exciting assembly that saw pupils voting to pass their own motions, which included: banning school assessments in the UK and building gyms in more schools. Pupils then returned to class and split into teams before forming their very own political parties. The children demonstrated very clear knowledge about the recent General Election and showed a good understanding of political vocabulary and current party leaders.

The Results:

The political parties impressed their teachers by showing lots of enthusiasm when it came to deciding which three areas they were going to help. Using their manifesto, pupils worked in teams to think of ways to improve services in the country. Once they had selected party colours, a party logo and slogan, the teams worked towards a tight deadline to design and create colourful party stash to promote their party. The day culminated with ballot papers and a secret election as children carefully voted for the most persuasive party in their class.

What they said:

  • ”This has been a brilliant day where I’ve seen the children get massively engaged with a topic that’s relevant to them, even at this age.’’ – Teacher, Wendell Park Primary
  • ”We’ve never done this before but it’s been really interesting. The videos helped us understand what we needed to do and we also had a chance to work as a team.’’ – Student, Wendell Park Primary

Well done to everyone who was involved.
