The whole school have been truly embedding the challenge skills into their curriculum in an impactful manner.

Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Birmingham, are new to Enabling Enterprise and about to begin their Lesson Time Projects in an exciting Enterprise Week soon. Year 3 will be doing Trash to Treasure and Year 6 The Big Business Challenge.

The Business: Aston University, Birmingham

Aston is a leading UK university specialising in Business, Engineering and the Sciences. Located in the metropolitan heart of Britain’s second city, it caters for the needs of around 12,000 students on its self-contained Aston Triangle campus.

The Challenge: Team Players

The students were challenged to work together in teams to create incredibly imaginative business cards that would be perfect for the student ambassadors at Aston University. The students learnt about what goes on at a university and why people go there, while working alongside Aston’s student ambassadors. The mixed age group of 7 to 11 year olds made the most of the opportunity to develop their teamwork skills and made new friends along the way. They shared ideas to make the best business cards possible within a very tight schedule. By combining teamwork and some brilliant creative thinking every team made a product of which they could be proud.

The Results:

The day concluded with a round of strong presentations from all teams in front of a panel of judges, who were all impressed at how rapidly students had developed their entrepreneurial skills throughout the day: sharing ideas, staying positive and working in a team so efficiently paid off for everyone.

What they said:

  • “It’s just fantastic! This girl who usually is so quiet in class, has been sharing her ideas, which is lovely.” – Teacher, Holy Family Primary School
  • “I think it’s a really nice opportunity for primary school children, because when I was in primary school we had nothing like this. And it was really nice to see the team-building element of it. I could really see the children really enjoy it, and they’ve learnt to work together as a team.” – Volunteer, Aston University
  • “I enjoyed making our cards the most because we were working together as a team and helping each other. We used a lot of the skills and it was a fun activity to do.” – Student, Gilbertstone Primary School

Thanks to Aston University for such a great trip day, and to Holy Family and Gilbertstone Primaries for coming along.
