The Schools: Chase Side Primary & Worcesters Primary School

Thirty budding Y4 & Y5 entrepreneurs from Chase Side and Worcesters Primary school in Enfield were invited along to Metaswitch Networks in Enfield Town to put their enterprise skills to the test in a special day of challenges. Chase Side Primary School is a long standing partner in their third year with Enabling Enterprise and the students have completed several enterprise projects back at school this year already. Worcesters Primary school are in their first year of working with Enabling enterprise and have kick started their year with a Moon Base Challenge Day and will continue the skill development with a podcasting enterprise project in the summer.

The Business: Metaswitch Networks, London

Metaswitch is a UK-based company that designs, develops, manufactures, and markets telecommunications hardware and software, solving complex communication issues for large organisations.

The Challenge: Team Players

Students were set the challenge of designing and making brand new business cards for the employees at Metaswitch Networks. In order to complete this challenge students had to listen carefully to employees when they conducted their research, use their imagination to come up with new designs and then work as a team to manufacture the business cards on their production line.

The Results:

The Year 4 & 5 students did a fantastic job at researching, designing and manufacturing the new business cards. Their teamwork on the production line was particularly impressive with every student completing a different task and then helping others in their team when they finished their own task.

What they said:

  • “The children quickly developed good relationships with peers from a neighbouring school. They worked confidently together and developed many key skills including communication, co-operation and problem solving” – Teacher, Worcesters Primary School
  • “It was a great day to be a part of. The children always seem to thoroughly enjoy themselves and get so much out of the day.” – Volunteer, Metaswitch
  • “I have really enjoyed meeting new friends and working with them on lots of fun activities” – Student, Chase Side Primary School

Thanks to Metaswitch for such a great trip day, and to Chase Side Primary School and Worcesters Primary School for coming along.
