The School: Oasis Woodview Academy

20 Year 3 and Year 4 children from Oasis Woodview Academy and Edgbaston in Birmingham attended the BT offices in Birmingham. Back at school they have been working so hard in teams on their enterprise projects to develop skills such as leadership, creativity and resilience.

The Business: BT, Birmingham

BT is a multinational telecommunications services company, one of the largest in the world. One of their pivotal values is Teamwork, they provide an excellent opportunity for students to come and learn more about the world of BT and how teamwork applies in the real world of work.

The Challenge: The Team Communication Challenge

After finding out more about how the employees at BT use their team work and collaboration skills and taking a visit down to the Exchange to see all the fibre optic wires and cables, the students were set the ultimate team challenge. To design and build a bridge made of limited resources, the bridge needed to be tall, strong and look good! Time was tight but the teams worked with their BT volunteer to pull together and support each other along the way.

The Results:

The teams constructed some fantastic bridges and worked hard to battle their nerves to stand up in front of the room to present their accomplishments. As Sue Hawker, vice principal of Oasis Woodview Academy summarised, the staff were all so proud of the students visiting today, they showed great cooperation when working with each other, where every student was engaged and on task. Despite feeling nervous about the prospect of presenting, each child stood up and spoke out confidently to the audience, it was fantastic to see such progress over the course of the day. We would most certainly agree, well done to all the Year 3 and Year 4 students!

What they said:

  • “We were very impressed with the children’s creativity” – Volunteer, BT
  • “My favourite part of the day was working in a team, I liked how everyone was busy doing something to help” – Student, Oasis Woodview Academy

Thanks to BT for such a great trip day, and to Oasis Woodview Academy for coming along.
